CrossFit athlete Woo Jin-yong won Netflix’s survival show “Physical: 100,” beating 99 other contestants in the competition’s various challenges.
Woo, a 37-year-old former professional snowboarder, defeated four other tough competitors in the final round, including Olympic cyclist Jung Hae-min, Olympic luger Park Jin-yong, buff car dealer Jo Jin-hyeong and mountain climber Kim Min-cheol, in the show’s finale released on Feb. 21.
In the finals, Woo took on three main challenges before emerging as the winner and taking home the 300 million won (approximately $230,000) cash prize.
Woo became a physical education teacher after graduating from Chung-Ang University with both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in physical education.
The athlete discovered his passion for snowboarding during a five-month stay in Canada in 2007. He eventually became a professional snowboarder and became the first national snowboarding athlete to officially represent South Korea at the International Ski Federation Freestyle Ski Cross World Cup in 2016.
Woo later became a coach of South Korea’s snowboarding national team before eventually becoming a CrossFit athlete and the representative of JD CrossFit Namsan in Seoul.
The reality show, a competition reminiscent of Netflix’s “Squid Game” that features 100 contestants in top physical condition, was also a winner in ratings.
“Physical: 100” reportedly topped the charts in 62 countries and was included in the streaming platform’s Top 10 non-English TV charts for the week of Jan. 30 to Feb. 5.
Viewers were hooked as they rooted for their favorite contestants to overpower the others with their agility and strength. The participants included both men and women from various professions, such as athletes, bodybuilders, fitness influencers, former Olympians, dancers and elite special forces personnel.
