Tokyo X brings Japanese food, anime, cars and culture to Houston this September

NextShark has partnered with Tokyo X, a fast-growing Japanese culture festival held annually at NRG Center in Houston.
Tokyo X 2026 will take place Sept. 26-27 and is expected to welcome more than 20,000 attendees for a weekend of Japanese food, anime, cosplay, live performances, automotive culture, artists, fashion, collectibles, cultural showcases and guest appearances from talent across Japan and the United States.
Founded with the goal of “bringing a piece of Japan” to Houston, Tokyo X was created as a bridge between Houston and Japan — a place where modern Japanese pop culture meets traditional arts, food, craftsmanship and community.
This year’s festival is already shaping up with anime voice actors, artists, cosplay guests, JDM car culture, food vendors and traditional cultural showcases. Confirmed guests include Karen Fukuhara, Dante Basco, Brian Beacock, Yong Yea, Jon Bailey, Dai Yoshihara, Coda, Yaya Han, Gen Sato, Hidetoshi Omori and more.
CODA, known for performing theme songs from “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure,” will also perform live at Tokyo X, with the concert included for attendees.
“Tokyo X is building something that goes beyond a traditional convention or festival,” said Benny Luo, founder and CEO of NextShark. “What stood out to us was the effort to create a broader cultural experience that connects people to different parts of Japan through food, art, creators, cars and community. It feels like the kind of event that can introduce Japanese culture to a much wider audience.”
Tokyo X founder Naoki Yoshida said the partnership with NextShark will help expand the festival’s reach while continuing to grow its connection with Houston’s diverse international community.
“Tokyo X was always envisioned as a way to create cultural exchange through shared experiences,” Yoshida said. “We’re excited to work with NextShark to help tell those stories and continue growing the event.”
