Production for the second season of Netflix’s “Squid Game” will start this summer, according to series star Lee Jung-jae.
In a recent interview with South Korean publication Ilgan Sports, Lee, who plays series protagonist Seong Gi-hun, shared that filming might take less than a year to complete.
“Squid Game 2 will begin filming in the summer and the filming will likely last for about 10 months,” he said, as per a translation via Allkpop. “We were working on Season 1 for about 10 months as well, but that was with delays caused by COVID-19. But seeing as Season 2 will be bigger in scale, it will probably take longer to complete.”
The 50-year-old star also shared, “As we all saw at the end of Season 1, the main plot of Season 2 will be revenge, and the key figure who controlled the workings of the games in Season 1 was Lee Byung Hun sunbae [senior], so it seems that the two of us will be the central figures of this next story.”
An official release date for “Squid Game” Season 2 has yet to be announced.
However, several details about the highly anticipated season have already been widely circulated. It will reportedly focus on Seong as he searches for answers and tries to take down the people behind the “Squid Game.” It will also include new game mechanisms and the potential return of Gong Yoo’s mysterious “man in the suit with ddakji.”
There has even been speculation that stars such as veteran Hong Kong actor Tony Leung may make an appearance.
