Simu Liu has released the official music video for his latest music single, “Don’t.”
What to know: The “Don’t” music video features black and white melancholic visuals. It also shows the 34-year-old “Barbie” actor playing the piano, a skill he has showcased on his Instagram account in the past, along with his guitar playing.
About the song: The “Shang-Chi” star first posted about “Don’t” on Instagram in April.
Describing the song, he wrote: “This song was written for all of the hard times in my life where I have questioned my worth and felt like an imposter. It is for every single person who ever has felt alone, different, heartbroken or hopeless. You are worthy. You belong. You MATTER.”
Following others’ footsteps: Liu, who released his debut song, “Hot Soup,” with 88rising in 2021, announced in March that his lifelong dream is to become a musician. The Chinese Canadian star is now part of a list of other Chinese or Hong Kong actors who ventured into music after finding success as actors.
Some stars who have dabbled in singing include Andy Lau, Angelababy and Liu’s “Shang-Chi” co-star Tony Leung.
Possibly the most accomplished of them all is Hong Kong legend Jackie Chan, who already has 20 albums under his name. The “Rush Hour” co-star released his most recent studio album in 2018. He was also credited for singing the Mandarin and Cantonese versions of “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” for the Chinese release of the hit 1998 Disney movie “Mulan.”
Fans’ reactions: Several social media users congratulated Liu on his new music video, with one YouTube user writing, “This is a beautiful song. I love his voice. He’s just so damn talented.”
Meanwhile, the Fung Brothers also left a comment on the actor’s latest music video, writing, “This song got feeling man! Been on repeat today.”
