Simu Liu poked fun at comedian Jo Koy on social media Thursday as he shared the news that he will be hosting the 2024 People’s Choice Awards next month.
Back to hosting: Liu, 34, will take center stage as host of the 2024 People’s Choice Awards at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, on Feb. 18, according to Variety. The “Barbie” actor previously hosted several awards show, including the Unforgettable Gala in December 2023, the Juno Awards of 2023 and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Scientific and Technical Awards 2023.
What they’re saying: In a statement, Jen Neal, executive vice president of live events and specials at NBCUniversal, said they are thrilled to have Liu host, noting that his “limitless charm and connection to fans perfectly embody the spirit of this awards show.”
Meanwhile, Liu said he was grateful for the gig. “It’s exciting to celebrate this incredible year in pop culture, and to do so with the incredible fans that make what we do possible,” he added, as per Deadline.
Safe for Swifties: Liu poked fun at Koy while announcing the news on X on Thursday, promising viewers that “there will be no Taylor [Swift] slander at the 2024 PCAs that’s a personal guarantee.” The “Shang-Chi” star is reportedly a self-proclaimed Swiftie and had attended the singer’s “Eras Tour” concert in Seattle in September.
Koy’s opening monologue as host of the Golden Globes drew divided reactions from the audience and social media users after he joked about Taylor Swift and the NFL, suggesting that the latter keeps the cameras at the “Bad Blood” singer whenever she is at the stadium. He has since responded to criticisms.
