Netflix has teamed up with legendary manga artist Eiichiro Oda and Wit Studio to remake the early saga of hit anime “One Piece” using modern visual tech.
About the remake: The collaborative team unveiled the new project, titled “The One Piece,” at Jump Festa 2024 on Sunday. Netflix also released a special announcement on YouTube.
The new anime series is expected to be visually distinctive from the original version released 25 years ago. As per Netflix’s Tudum, viewers will be treated to “a fresh yet familiar experience, utilizing cutting-edge visual technology to reimagine Luffy’s adventures through the beloved East Blue saga.”

What to expect: The “East Blue Saga” follows the early quest of series protagonist Monkey D. Luffy to find the mysterious One Piece treasure and become the Pirate King. Wit Studio, the company behind “Spy x Family” and “Attack on Titan” Seasons 1 to 3, will be in charge of the animation.
It remains to be seen whether the voice cast from the original “One Piece” anime will return for the remake, and whether Wit Studio will remove filler stories, which were abundant in Toei Animation’s version.
Who’s behind the project: Joining Netflix, Oda and Wit Studio in the project are Shueisha, Fuji Television Network and Toei Animation Co., the studio behind the current version of “One Piece,” which has now entered the “Egghead Arc.”
Netflix has yet to announce a release date. “The One Piece” is currently in production at Wit Studio.
