NBC’s ‘Quantum Leap’ renewed for Season 2

NBC has renewed “Quantum Leap,” a sci-fi drama series with an Asian American lead, for its second season.
The early renewal comes after the network extended the first season of the show by six episodes, for a total of 18 episodes.
In the reboot of the original 1989 show, lead physicist Ben Song (Raymond Lee) helms Project Quantum Leap. His predecessor, Dr. Samuel Beckett, disappeared nearly 30 years before while using the lab’s Quantum Leap accelerator.
Song himself then makes an unauthorized trip in the Project Accelerator to return to the past. Unable to remember why he made the leap, his team, including Jenn Chou (Nanrisa Lee), the head of digital security, is left looking for answers.
The “Quantum Leap” premiere on September 19 scored nearly 3.35 million viewers, and the series became the No. 2 broadcast show of the season in the 18-49 age demographic, according to Nielsen and NBC. On Peacock, Season 1 of the show became the NBC streaming platform’s best-ever launch of a drama series.
“We’re leaping into a second season thanks to the incredible work by our cast, producers, writers, and everyone who has played a role in giving this iconic NBC series a new life,” said Lisa Katz, president of scripted content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “As we continue to bring audiences to our must-watch dramas, it’s gratifying to know Quantum Leap will have a prominent place next season both on our NBC schedule and next day on Peacock.”
“Quantum Leap,” which has been on hiatus since November, returns Jan. 2 on NBC and will be available for next-day streaming on Peacock.
