Meet Ana Cruz Kayne, the Filipino American ‘Barbie’ actor playing Supreme Court Justice Barbie

Of the various actors playing Barbie in Warner Bros.’ upcoming “Barbie” film, Filipino American actor Ana Cruz Kayne is definitely one to look out for.
Background information: The 39-year-old actor, who is of Filipino and Jewish descent, was born in New Haven, Connecticut. She graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and Italian literature and started her acting career in 2007.
Past and upcoming projects: Kayne’s debut onscreen role was in a 2007 episode of the TV series “Guiding Light.” Following this, she appeared in episodes of “Law and Order,” “Rescue Me” and “Louie” and played minor roles in films such as 2008’s “Uncertainty,” 2010’s “The Beginner,” 2011’s “Another Earth,” 2014’s “Saint Janet” and 2019’s “Little Women.”
Last year, she played the character Lacey in Netflix’s now-canceled “Partner Track,” and later this year, she will portray Brianna Ortiz in the Netflix limited series “Painkiller.”
Filipino pride: In “Barbie,” Kayne notably plays Supreme Court Justice Barbie. The rising star, whose mother is Filipino, has recently been making headlines for her outfits that pay tribute to her Filipino heritage.
During “Barbie’s” Hollywood premiere on Sunday, Kayne was spotted on the pink carpet wearing a terno by Filipino fashion designer Dennis Lustico.
“Maraming salamat [thank you so much] to my dream team for sending me down the pink carpet feeling like my own snatched fairy godmother,” she wrote in a recent Instagram post.
Lustico also posted about Kayne’s traditional Filipino clothing on Instagram, writing, “The beautiful @anacruzkayne proudly showing her heritage in our pink coconut terno at the world premiere of Barbie.”
In addition to the pink carpet, Kayne has been spotted in at least one other instance wearing a terno. In what appears to be a promotional image for “Barbie,” Kayne can be seen wearing traditional Filipino clothing with distinguishable butterfly sleeves.
