A 31-year-old American man wanted on sex charges in Virginia was arrested in Cambodia.
Authorities found Samuel Douglas Lovejoy at a fish market in the city of Kampot on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
He was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery and two counts of indecent liberties with a child by a custodian via the Loudoun County Circuit Court in Virginia.
A spokeswoman for the Commonwealth’s Attorney of Loudoun County said that one sexual battery dated back to October 2016, while the other three charges dated from August 2017, according to The Phnom Penh Post.
He also failed to appear for a court hearing on February 2017.
Mao Chanmathurith, provincial police chief at Kampot, said that Lovejoy was apprehended per the request of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
“We detained him immediately and we did not ask any questions from the suspect. We sent the above suspect to the General Department of Immigration to settle the situation,” Chanmathurith said.
As far as authorities are aware, Lovejoy has not committed any offense while he stayed in Cambodia, Khmer Times noted.
