A rare flower species in Thailand has been named after Blackpink’s Lisa.
Researchers at Chiang Mai University in Thailand have recognized the Friesodielsia lalisae as a newly discovered species of Friesodielsia Steenis, a fragrant flower.
According to the official research report, the flower is prevalent in Narathiwat, “one of the southernmost and inadequately explored provinces of Thailand by morphological investigations.” The researchers noted that the flower species should be classified as “Critically Endangered” and that “any conservation effort should be immediately initiated.”
The report’s etymology section states that the species was “named in honor of Lalisa Manobal, a famous Thai rapper, singer and dancer, whose motivation has greatly inspired the first author [Anissara Damthongdee] to overcome any obstacles during her Ph.D. study.”
Coincidentally, while Lisa now has a flower named after her, fellow Blackpink member Jisoo recently released her debut solo single titled “Flower.” Blackpink are currently on their “Born Pink” world tour and are scheduled to make history as the first K-pop artists to headline Coachella later this week.
Lisa is set to feature on BIGBANG member Taeyang’s upcoming album “Down to Earth,” which will be released on April 25.
