Starbucks Releases New Drink in Southeast Asia With ‘Coffee Boba’

A new frappuccino with what can only be described as the closest thing Starbucks has to boba is now available in several Southeast Asian countries.
The drink, Dark Caramel Coffee Sphere Frappuccino, was released in Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines (which calls it Ultra Caramel Coffee Sphere) just recently, along with a fruity companion called Watermelon and Lychee Aloe Frappuccino.
“We take our signature Coffee Frappuccino and blend it with buttery caramel sauce before adding it to a cup that’s lined with caramel drizzle,” Starbucks says about the new beverage, which is then topped with a dollop of whipped cream.
Its more interesting ingredient, however, are dozens of “coffee spheres,” which look just like tapioca pearls many are addicted to having in milk tea.
But unlike boba — which typically tastes the same inside out — biting into coffee spheres will give drinkers a burst of the coffee giant’s signature Brazilian coffee.
Needless to say, the drink offers a new tastebud experience.
Dark Caramel Coffee Sphere Frappuccino starts at 8.20 Singaporean dollars/17.50 Malaysian ringgit/170 Philippine pesos ($4-6).
