‘It’s official like a referee with a whistle’: Snoop Dogg reveals upcoming collaboration with BTS

Hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg has officially confirmed the previously rumored collaboration between him and K-pop supergroup BTS.
“The BTS experience you keep talking about,” Snoop told The A.V. Club. “I’m going to let them tell you about it. It’s official like a referee with a whistle. I love that entertainment world. It’s good music. It’s [a] vibe. I make good music. They make good music. And we end up doing this. This is what it’s always about, bringing our worlds together.”
The K-pop group — composed of Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook — have been longtime Snoop fans and reportedly initiated the upcoming project. “Hip Hop Phile,” a track from their 2014 album “Dark & Wild,” even has a reference to Snoop’s 1993 album “Doggystyle.”
In an interview on the “Mogul Talk” podcast back in January, Snoop Dogg shared that the South Korean group sent him a request to collaborate on a project.
“I got a group named BTS that’s waiting on me to do a song with them right now,” Snoop told the podcast hosts. “And I’m trying to figure out if I got time to do that sh*t.”
At the time, Snoop said he knew little about BTS, and he had to consult his nephew for more details about them.
“[He] showed me five motherf*ckers who look like the Asian New Edition,” he said. “I said OK.”
Snoop has collaborated with numerous Asian acts in the past, including K-pop artist Psy as well as girl groups Girls Generation and 2NE1.
“I’ve been experiencing the K-pop experience for a long time, connected to the music world [and] scene,” Snoop went on. “I got a record with a group called 2NE1 back in the day. Come on now, it’s what I do.”
BTS fans can look forward to the official announcement soon, as the group is set to make their U.S. return next month for a series of concerts and an appearance at 2022 the Grammys.
