There’s a Bus With Wi-Fi That Will Take You From L.A. to SF While You Sleep for $48
By Laura Dang
Thanks to a new startup, sleepy drivers can be snoozing while a designated driver gets them safely to their destination overnight.
The Sleepbus, founded by Tom Currier and Jonathan Tyler, offers nightly non-stop trips between Los Angeles and San Francisco for $48 each way. It can be caught at the Santa Monica Pier North parking lot and unloads at the King Caltrain, San Francisco Station.
All buses depart at 11 p.m. and arrive at the destination by 6 a.m. the following morning. Passengers are able to enjoy a private pod with a twin bed, privacy curtain, outlet, reading light and deluxe sheets. The bus also comes equipped with complimentary WiFi, tea, coffee and snacks.
Currier, a Stanford dropout, told NextShark he is focused on selling the concept to travelers and plans on buying a fleet of buses once the idea catches on. So far, Sleepbus has chartered one sleeper coach bus with a capacity of 20 passengers for their pilot run.
The team has been working on their idea over the past month and launched Sleepbus three days ago. They’ve given two rides from San Francisco and Los Angeles and have already sold 177 tickets.
The founder says he is looking to expand the Sleepbus service to include cities such as San Diego, Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe so that riders everywhere can have a good night’s rest.
While a ride on the Sleepbus is currently priced on its website at $48, Currier says it may increase to $65 in the future.
