K-pop boyband OMEGA X splits with agency following abuse allegations
K-pop boyband OMEGA X has officially ended their exclusive contracts with SPIRE Entertainment after months of dispute over allegations that the agency’s former CEO verbally abused and mistreated members of the group.
OMEGA X and SPIRE Entertainment have reached an amicable and mutual agreement to terminate our exclusive contract after careful and lengthy discussions. As a result, we have decided to end all disputes with our former agency SPIRE Entertainment, and we agreed to work for the development of K-pop from our respective positions.
We sincerely thank all the people who have cared about and believed in OMEGA X. Going forward, OMEGA X plans to continue our activities with our manager, who has shared our joys and sorrows from since before our debut. We will be back with better music and further improvement. We ask for your support of OMEGA X as we take this leap.
OMEGA X’s legal counsel previously stated their intention to press charges against Kang Seong-hee, the former CEO of SPIRE Entertainment, for allegedly threatening, assaulting and exploiting the members.
In October 2022, accusations of mistreatment came to light after SBS News released several video clips allegedly showing Kang verbally abusing and physically handling members of the group.
Not long after those clips went viral, OMEGA X launched an independent Instagram account and claimed they were subjected to “unwarranted treatment” from SPIRE. The group also won a lawsuit against SPIRE Entertainment to suspend their contracts with the agency nearly four months before officially terminating their contracts.
Kang and SPIRE Entertainment have yet to comment on OMEGA X’s decision to terminate their contracts with the K-pop agency.
