“Parasite” director Bong Joon-ho has gathered an ensemble cast for his latest project, a sci-fi movie which is set to begin shooting this summer.
Pre-production for the upcoming film is underway at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden, according to Deadline.
Stars of the DC, Marvel and Star Wars cinematic universes will be featured in the film, with Robert Pattinson set to lead following his latest role in “The Batman.” “The Avengers” star Mark Ruffalo along with Naomi Ackie of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” have also joined the cast.
Toni Collette, who recently starred in Netflix shows “Pieces of Her” and “The Staircase,” will also appear in the upcoming film.
Based on the Edward Ashton novel “Mickey7,” the untitled production is Bong’s first directorial endeavor since his 2019 Oscar-winning film “Parasite.”
“Mickey7 is an Expendable: a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim,” reads the book’s synopsis. “Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous—even suicidal—the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal…and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.”
While the film will take inspiration from the novel, it may deviate from its source material.
Bong serves as the film’s writer, director and producer through his production company Offscreen.
As part of a deal with Warner Bros, producers Dooho Choi of Kate Street Picture Company and Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner from Plan B have also joined the project.
