The unprecedented success of the action-packed Indian blockbuster “RRR” is something that N. T. Rama Rao Jr. “never” anticipated.
When NextShark caught up with the Telugu actor, he was strutting down the red carpet of the Golden Globes in support of the film, which was nominated for both Best Non-English Language Picture and Best Song.

When asked about how “RRR” was able to garner international acclaim, Rama Rao pointed to three main factors.
“The major reason[s] ‘RRR’ was able to do what it has done is purely because of the emotional portion of ‘RRR,’ the extravaganza action of ‘RRR,’ and of course the ‘Naatu Naatu’ song,” Rama Rao said.
The “Naatu Naatu” song Rama Rao is referring to is the film’s dazzling dance number, which was awarded Best Song over performances from pop icons like Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga later that evening.
With this victory, team “RRR” secured India’s first-ever Golden Globe award.
“I think everyone back home is proud, the country is proud today. It’s not only a win for ‘RRR’ but a win for the people back home, a win for the country itself,” Rama Rao said.
Set in the 1920s, the film centers around the fictional partnership between historical revolutionaries Komaram Bateem (Rama Rao) and Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Chiran), who band together to rise up against their British oppressors.
