A music educator based in Chicago is taking dumpling-making to the next level with a nursery rhyme that has gone viral on TikTok.
Katie Norregaard, better known as Miss Katie Sings, has garnered more than 500,000 likes and 2 million views after sharing the “dumpling song,” which she says she grew up singing in Taiwan.
“It describes a shortened process of making dumplings: fry the eggs, chop the carrots, wrap the dumpling, boil the water, and eat!” she wrote under a YouTube version of the fingerplay song.
Miss Katie describes her songs for children as “truly radical, beautiful work.”
“Through my songs, I promote social-emotional learning, tenderness, creativity, and justice,” she wrote on her website.
Miss Katie has worked as a professional musician and taught on-camera lessons as well as in-person children’s classes before taking on virtual classes for preschoolers throughout the U.S.
“Through my work, I want young children to feel the way Mister Rogers made me feel growing up: valued, creative and seen,” she said. “I love what I do here. I hope you do too.”
TikTokers were in full agreement, with one commenter calling Miss Katie’s voice “calming.”
Another said the child singing “nie nie nie” was too “precious.”
“This is gonna be stuck in my head now,” another user wrote.
