Live-Action ‘Mulan’ to Replace Mushu, Use Original Music But No Singing
By Ryan General
Yesterday’s arrival of the teaser trailer for the live-action “Mulan” adaptation was greeted by fans with general excitement.
Many appreciated how the minute-and-a-half clip shows familiar characters and scenes from the beloved 1998 Disney original animation.
However, some fans expressed disappointment for not hearing the songs from the animated classic.
Recent Disney live-action remakes, notably “Beauty and the Beast” and “Aladdin,” have delighted viewers for including the songs from the original movies.
Last year, fans were delighted to learn from reports that “Mulan” would feature some of the memorable music from the original film.
Notable songs from the original include “Reflection,” “Honor to Us All,” “I’ll Make a Man Out of You,” and “A Girl With Fighting For.”
However, a recent update on the film indicated that while music from the animated film is included, they will only be instrumentals instead of entire songs that the cast will sing in the movie, the DisInsider reports.
Citing a source working on the project, the report further confirmed that Mulan’s beloved sidekick Mushu has been replaced by a new character embodying a phoenix. Other details about this new character remain under wraps.
Mulan, which stars Liu Yifei as Hua Mulan, features an all-Asian cast including Utkarsh Ambudkar, Yoson An, Rosalind Cheng Pei-Pei, Chum Ehelepola, Jason Scott Lee, Nelson Lee, Gong Li, Jet Li, Tzi Ma, Donnie Yen and Ron Yuan.
The highly-anticipated film, which is currently under post-production, is set to hit theaters in March 2020.
