‘Won’t Have to Wait Very Long at All’ for a Southeast Asian Marvel Superhero, Says Kevin Feige

A Southeast Asian superhero might join the Marvel Cinematic Universe sooner than expected, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hinted at a recent press conference for Disney+.
The topic was brought up while Feige was in Singapore on Tuesday to promote the local launch of the streaming service, reports NME.
During a Q&A segment, Feige was asked if it was “high time we get a Southeast Asian Marvel superhero on Disney+.”
“I think it is,” Feige said. “And I think you won’t have to wait there very long at all. We’ve announced a number of shows and we’ve got more in the works.”
He then added, “As I said, the world outside your window, no matter where you are, is what the Marvel world will represent.”
Several Marvel comics already have a number of Asian superheroes, and a few of them have made their transition to the MCU, as NextShark previously reported.
“Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” which will be released this July, will feature Simu Liu as the titular hero alongside Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Ronny Chieng and Michelle Yeoh.
Meanwhile, Pakistani Canadian actress Iman Vellani will be playing the first South Asian character to debut on Disney+. Her television series, “Ms. Marvel,” is set for a late 2021 release as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
As for Southeast Asian superheroes who will join the celebrated film and television universe, that still remains a mystery.
One potential character is Vietnamese mutant Karma, who was left out of Fox’s “New Mutants” film. Fiege’s comments have also opened up possibilities to create MCU versions of Filipina superhero Wave, who made her debut in 2019 via ”War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas,” as well as Filipino superhero team Triumph Division, who appeared in the “Invincible Iron Man.”
