Man Dresses Up as a Suicide Bomber For Halloween in Malaysia, Immediately Gets Arrested
By Ryan General
A man in Malaysia was arrested and is now under investigation for a failed attempt at a Halloween costume.
Malaysian authorities did not find the Halloween outfit of the man dressed as a “suicide bomber” at all amusing.
According to Channel NewsAsia, the man, believed to be in his 30s, was apprehended on Tuesday after a terrified resident of an apartment building in Damansara Perdana ran into him in the elevator following a Halloween party, and proceeded to file a police report.
Dressed in white, the man was sporting a fake beard and a checkered towel wrapped around his head. He even had a fake “circuit bomb” made of cardboard, an “antenna” and some plastic bottles were taped around his hip. The suspect is being investigated for criminal intimidation.
“At about 7.40pm, residents at an apartment in Damansara Perdana came across the man who was dressed as a suicide bomber,” Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din told local media. “It was for a Halloween party and he was spotted riding the lift.”
Considering that Malaysia is a Muslim-majority country, it is highly unlikely that there would be anyone who would be amused at the apparent attempt at an ignorant joke.
The police chief noted that the attire is a sensitive issue, especially after some recent incidents linked to the Islamic State happened in the country.
