The K-pop subunit MAMAMOO+ dropped their comeback single album “Act 1, Scene 1,” led by the title track music video “GGBB,” on Tuesday.
“Act 1, Scene 1” contains four tracks: “GGBB,” “LLL,” “나쁜놈 (Chico Malo)” and a special CD-only Aniri version of “나쁜놈 (Chico Malo)” featuring pansori musician Kim Jun-su. Aniri refers to the narration or spoken elements of traditional pansori, a genre of musical storytelling in South Korea. “Chico Malo” incorporates traditional instruments like the gayageum (a Korean string instrument) and daegeum (a bamboo flute).
A pre-release music video for the Aniri version of “Chico Malo” premiered last week. “LLL” was also part of a medley of songs in member Solar’s birthday video last month. Both Solar and Moonbyul helped co-write “Chico Malo” and “LLL.”
MAMAMOO+ debuted in August 2022 with their single “Better,” featuring BIG Naughty. Last October, MAMAMOO returned as a full quartet with their single “ILLELA,” which was included in their mini-album “Mic ON.” This marked their first release in over a year since the compilation album “I Say MAMAMOO: The Best” in September 2021.
MAMAMOO is scheduled to embark on their first-ever U.S. tour in May and June as part of their “MY CON” world tour. The tour includes nine dates and features performances in New York and Los Angeles. Tickets will go on sale on March 29 at 10 a.m. local venue time through Ticketmaster.
