Malaysian Man’s Tinder Bio is Dead on Arrival Just Like Us
By Bryan Ke
A 20-year-old Malaysian man is winning the hearts of many Tinder users with his hilarious pun and dark profile bio.
Malaysian college student, Darren Go, wasn’t very lucky in his quest to find a match on Tinder.
“Having a ‘normal,’ ‘civilized,’ and ‘pretty’ bio didn’t work, [so] why not try something different?” Go said during his talk with BuzzFeed News. “So, I thought of using my dark humor and love for puns to try and find like-minded people.”
People who want to be successful in finding a match have to be really creative with their profile bio, but for Go, he used dark humor to entice potential dates to swipe right on him.
Users will see a picture of Go after an operation, lying on a hospital bed with tubes attached to his mouth.
“I’m dying to meet you. When can ICU?” he wrote on his bio.
According to the Multimedia University (Cyberjaya) student, the photo was taken by his pastor after his heart surgery in 2012. The purpose of the picture was to update everyone in his church group about his status and recovery.
“One of [my friends] suggested that I should put it as my Tinder bio to gain some sympathy points. So I thought I would give it a shot since my normal bios aren’t working anyway,” Go said.
Unfortunately, despite the humorous bio, Go admitted that it didn’t bring him closer to his goal of finding a date.
“In terms of suitors, I did get many matches, but most of them just matched with me to ask me why I’m disrespecting myself or to just laugh and provide more puns,” the college student said. “I’m still single and very available.”
It seems creative profiles are slowly becoming a trend. Earlier this month, Tinder users stumbled upon a profile bio of what appears to be a sales pitch. Niket Biswas, manager of software engineering at Facebook in New York, made his biography page look like a PowerPoint presentation complete with graphs and the benefits you’ll get if you swipe right.
