A video of a Malaysian man confronting his 6-year-old daughter for stealing from him to help her friends has gone viral on TikTok.
What happened: The father, identified only as Erwan, was baffled after losing 1,500 Malaysian ringgit (approximately $328) in cash in his own home. After a search, he discovered the missing banknotes in his daughter’s bag, leading to a serious conversation.
Why she did it: The TikTok video, which has now received more than half a million views, shows Erwan’s daughter explaining why she took her father’s money. As it turns out, she did it to help friends in need.
“They need help, daddy,” the 6-year-old says in Malay.
The aftermath: Erwan told World of Buzz that he recovered 700 Malaysian ringgit ($153). His daughter had given the rest to her friends, with some getting as much as 200 Malaysian ringgit (approximately $44).
The situation eventually reached the other children’s parents. Erwan said they wanted to return the money, but he decided to give it away as a “donation” instead.
Reactions: TikTok users praised Erwan’s daughter for having a kind heart, but they also stressed that stealing is never the right thing to do. On the other hand, they commended Erwan for how he dealt with the situation.
“She’s a good child. She has a heart,” one commented.
Another wrote, “He’s a good father. He reprimanded her nicely but firmly.”
