Scottish Nurse, Aspiring Actress Crowned Miss Hong Kong 2020

A nurse of mixed-race heritage was recently crowned Miss Hong Kong 2020, which is now in its 48th year.

Popular candidate: Lisa Marie Tse, a 25-year-old aspiring actress, was an early favorite before winning Hong Kong’s premiere beauty pageant.

Organized by TVB television station, the annual event selects its top five winners via public voting.
While not fluent in Cantonese, Tse captured the hearts of Hong Kong viewers with her performance of the classic Chinese song “Shanghai Tang.”
Standing at 5 feet 2 inches tall, Tse was the only overseas finalist to make the top 10 during Sunday’s pageant. She was also awarded both the “Champion” and “Miss Photogenic” prize.
Meanwhile, trainee interior designer Celina Harto won first runner-up, while Rosita Kwok Pak Yin won second.

Coming home: Born in Scotland to a Hong Kong father and Scottish mother, Tse shared on social media how her dad encouraged her to join the pageant.

“Hong Kong has always held a special place in my heart and I cannot wait to take this opportunity to continue to spread love and joy,” shared Tse on Instagram.
A graduate of Edinburgh Napier University, Tse worked as a surgical nurse in a Scottish hospital before giving in to her father’s suggestion.
“When I was 17 years old, my dad encouraged me to come to Hong Kong and join the Miss Hong Kong pageant, but I was not interested at the time, since I have so many friends in Scotland,” she was quoted by The Standard as saying.
According to Tse she had a hectic past few weeks but considered the experience to be amazing. The previous winner, Carmaney Wong Ka-man, passed on her crown to Tse.
“I have learnt so much, grown as a person and really couldn’t have done this without your support. I am still in complete shock,” she added.
