Le Sserafim member Yunjin surprised fans on Tuesday with a self-produced song titled “Raise y_our glass.”
The song’s title includes a combination of “Y,” which stands for Yunjin, and “our,” meaning we – when put together, they create “y_our.”
Yunjin, 20, released the track in celebration of 100 days since Le Sserafim’s debut. Hours after the new song came out, Yunjin created an Instagram account, becoming the fourth member of her group to do so after Sakura, Chaewon and Kazuha.
“Raise y_our glass” was written and produced by Yunjin, who previously produced “Blue Flame” off Le Sserafim’s debut mini-album “Fearless” with her fellow group mate Chaewon.
The vlog-style music video for “Raise y_our glass” documents Yunjin’s journey from trainee to fully realized idol and includes touching moments with her group mates. Yunjin can be seen taking a flight to South Korea to begin training for Le Sserafim, and she recalls the happy memories she has made since then.
For Le Sserafim fans, who are now dubbed “Fearnot,” the video provides a heartfelt look at the hardships and triumphs of the Korean American vocalist.
Yunjin made the song as a “thank you” to all the people who have supported her. It is “a song that tells a story for me, for you, and for us,” according to Naver.
The theme of honesty is reflected in some of the lyrics of the song: “I don’t know what I’d be doing without you, you love who I am, cause I don’t care as long as I’m with you… It took a while to get here, I’m fearless but I still fear.”
Yunjin, whose English name is Jennifer, was a Pledis Entertainment trainee who participated in the reality singing competition show “Produce 48” in 2018. The show led to the lineup of the now-disbanded group Izone, which Le Sserafim members Chaewon and Sakura were once part of.
After “Produce 48,” Yunjin was planning to return to the U.S. and head to art school, but she ended up getting an offer from Source Music, one of Hybe’s subsidiary labels alongside Pledis, to join Le Sserafim.
“Raise y_our glass” has not received an official streaming release, but it can be accessed via Soundcloud in addition to Le Sserafim’s YouTube channel.
In other Le Sserafim news, former member Kim Garam, whose contract was terminated last month following bullying allegations, has reportedly issued a new statement maintaining her innocence.
