K-pop Weekly: Red Velvet’s Seulgi goes solo, boy band comebacks and cheating allegations
This week marks the start of a month chock full of comebacks and releases from just about every K-pop act you can think of. NextShark has rounded up some of the most prominent ones.
Music Releases
Oct. 4 Tuesday
Red Velvet’s Seulgi debuted her first-ever solo album “28 Reasons,” led by a title track of the same name. Notable B-sides include “Dead Man Running,” which is Seulgi’s first songwriting credit, and “Bad Boy, Sad Girl,”’ featuring rapper BE’O.
YG Entertainment boy group TREASURE returned as 10 members instead of 12 with the album “THE SECOND STEP : CHAPTER TWO,” led by the title track “Hello.” The album features several side tracks and unit songs written and composed by members like Choi Hyun-suk, Yoshi, Haruto, Asahi and Bang Ye-dam.
Coming off the heels of their world tour, AB6IX dropped their 6th EP “TAKE A CHANCE,” led by the title track “Sugarcoat.” Members Lee Daehwi and Park Woojin had a hand in writing and composing the album. It also features the track “Complicated,” co-written by Monsta X’s Hyungwon.
Oct. 5 Wednesday
Soloist JAMIE released her first EP in four years with “One Bad Night” and title track music video “3D Woman.” The album coincides shortly after the postponement of her North American tour due to “an unforeseen scheduling conflict.” She and DJ YENA are the focus of the most recent episode of the Warner Music Korea original series “Under House.”
Oct. 6 Thursday
K-pop icon and actor Bae Suzy shared a surprise single “Cape.”
Oct. 7 Friday
Korean rock band The Rose ended their three-year hiatus with their latest full-length album “HEAL.” On the 10 song album, the tracks “Childhood” and “Sour” get the music video treatment. They will embark on their 40 city world tour this month.
JYP Entertainment boy group Stray Kids’ new mini album “Maxident” is led by the title track “Case 143.” Stray Kids were involved with the lyrics and composition of the entire album.

- Quintet K-pop veterans EXID trademarked their name.
- Pledis Entertainment has issued a notice detailing fan etiquette for boy group SEVENTEEN following instances of privacy and safety violations.
- Filipino boxing star Manny Pacquiao will guest star on the Korean variety shows “Running Man” and “Knowing Brothers.”
- Soloist WOODZ left label Yuehua Entertainment and will reportedly join EDAM Entertainment, which would make him the second artist under the company after IU.
- Kakao Entertainment will air a metaverse reality competition singing show “Re:verse” on Nov. 28 with idols from existing girl groups, who will be masked until eliminated.
