ABC has canceled its romance thriller “The Company You Keep” after just one season.
“The Company You Keep” was based on the 2019 K-drama “My Fellow Citizens” and followed the star-crossed romantic relationship of a con man named Charlie, played by Milo Ventimiglia, and an undercover CIA officer named Emma, played by Catherine Haena Kim.
The pair, who are unaware of each other’s true occupations, end up falling for one another.
It was reportedly the idea of Jon M. Chu, one of the executive producers, to portray Emma as an Asian American character.
Her onscreen family included a Korean American father played by James Saito, a Chinese American mother played by Freda Foh Shen and an older brother played by Tim Chiou. Saito’s character took inspiration from Gary Locke, the first Chinese American governor.

Rounding out the cast were William Fichtner, Sarah Wayne Callies, Felisha Terrell and Polly Draper.
Other shows canned by ABC included “Big Sky” and “Alaska Daily.” The network’s other midseason premiere show, “Will Trent,” was renewed for a second season.
