BTS member Jimin’s single has become Soundcloud’s most-streamed song ever.
Stacks on stacks: The megahit K-pop celebrity, who is no stranger to smashing world records, released his solo single “Promise” on the platform on Dec. 31, 2018, which has already reached 300 million streams — the highest of any song on the platform.
  • Soundcloud tweeted a congratulatory message to the vocalist and announced his status on Tuesday.
  • The acoustic song features his signature falsetto singing. Jimin also took part in composing and writing the lyrics with the help of HYBE producer Slow Rabbit and fellow BTS member RM.
  • “Promise” was already showing signs of becoming one of SoundCloud’s biggest songs. On January 3, 2019, the platform stated the single overtook Drake’s “Duppy Freestyle” for the biggest 24-hour debut and it continued to grow in streams.
  • “Promise” beats XXXTENTACION’s “F*ck Love (feat. Trippie Redd),” which sits at 284 million streams.
  • BTS member V’s “Scenery” also made it into the top 10 most-streamed songs at eighth place with 200 million streams.
  • “At first, it wasn’t meant to be a comforting song as it is now. Rather it was supposed to reprimand myself with lyrics like ‘What’s gotten into you’ and more harsh words,” he told Korea Herald in 2019. “My thoughts at that time were dark and lyrics came out that way.”
  • He blamed it on his personality, saying that he is “often indecisive” and “not true to myself. I hated that. I was so sick of myself not being able to say what I truly felt and thought.”
  • When it came time for him to perform at the Citi Field in New York, he made a “promise” to himself: “Things could get tough again and go not as I wanted, but let’s not make it even harder by me being hard on myself. Don’t disparage myself. That’s what I thought to myself.”
