Korean American rapper Jay Park dropped his new single titled “Need To Know” on Tuesday.
The music video for the song uses the classic romantic setting of a drive-in movie theater and sees Park serenading a love interest played by notable South Korean dancer and “Street Woman Fighter” contestant Noze.
It is Park’s first new music project since his single “Ganadara” four months ago featuring singer IU. “Ganadara” was the first single under Park’s newest label More Vision.
Noze’s appearance in Park’s video follows recent controversy surrounding the dancer after she was criticized over alleged discrimination toward smaller companies and brands. Accusers claimed Noze would fail to meet advertisement deadlines after receiving up to $40,000 USD and that she would delete posts of smaller brands after receiving payments but keep larger, luxury brand posts up on her social media.
On July 5, Noze’s agency issued an apology saying, “We have learned that our side failed to meet the advertisement timeline for endorsement offers by certain companies. Noze and the agency are both deeply reflecting on the issue after realizing the gravity of the mistake. We’ll make sure that this does not happen again.”
Yesterday, the dancer posted a handwritten apology letter to her Instagram account. In the apology, she wrote “I would like to apologize for saying this so late. I have been contemplating how to best express my apology to those who I have disappointed recently with my immature actions. Because of this, I feel I have caused further disappointment, and so I would like to apologize again. There are no excuses. I am sorry for negatively impacting the advertiser’s businesses and disappointing you.”
“Due to my irresponsible actions, I have negatively impacted the advertisers and disappointed my fans, who have given me so much love,” she continued. “Because I know there are no words to take back my actions, rather than seek forgiveness, I will do my best to show a better side of me. I will do my best with this in mind to show you a better side of me and be more humble.”
Jay Park debuted in 2008 in the boy group 2PM before leaving the group in early 2010 to pursue solo activities. He has had a long solo career since then, with hits like “JOAH,” “Mommae” and “Drive.” He most notably founded two labels, AOMG in 2013 and H1ghr Music in 2017. He stepped down as CEO from both labels last year but continues to be involved in an advisory role. He is slated to perform at 88rising’s Head in The Clouds Festival next month.
