You’ve probably heard of different flavored Kit Kat’s in Japan, but you’ve probably never heard of this limited edition Kit Kat sushi.
According to New York Daily News, limited edition Kit Kat sushi was first introduced last week in Tokyo’s first-ever street-facing specialty store in the Ginza district.
These specialized chocolate sushi treats come in flavors of three which are “Uni” (sea urchin), “Maguro” (tuna), and “Tamago” (egg) – similar to its traditional ingredients.
But for the faint of heart who may not be sure if chocolate sushi would be delectable, you would be happy to know that there is no actual sea urchin, tuna, or egg in these Kit Kat sushi.
The “sea urchin” is actually mascarpone-cheese and Hokkaido melon, the “egg” is pumpkin-pudding flavored, and the “tuna” is raspberry flavored that sits above white chocolate rice puffs.
Isn’t that a relief?
Japan, a country that clearly has some fixation when it comes to Kit Kats, has produced as many as 300 different flavors since 1973.
Only 500 sets of the sushi Kit Kats will be given to customers who spend 3,000 yen ($27) or more at the new Ginza store from Feb. 2 to Feb. 14. The sets will be sold on a first come first serve basis.
But the challenge to make something interesting out of the ordinary continues for Chef Yasumasa Takagi –- the one responsible for the numerous Kit Kat confections in Tokyo.
For Takagi, the goal is simple:
“I want to surprise people, I want to make them happy and I want to somehow create an emotional reaction.”
