Filipino American actor Jacob Batalon is starring in the brand new horror-comedy series “Reginald the Vampire” set for release before Halloween.
The 25-year-old actor, who is best known for playing Peter Parker’s best friend Ned Leeds in five Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero films, will play the upcoming show’s titular character.
Batalon shared a poster for the upcoming Syfy series on Instagram on Thursday with the caption “We comin in hot.”
“Reginald the Vampire,” which is based on the book series “Fat Vampire” by Johnny B. Truant, also stars Marguerite Hanna, Mandela Van Peebles, Em Haine, Aren Buchholz, Savannah Basley, Georgia Waters, Sean Yves Lessard, Thailey Roberge, Ryan Jinn and Andre Tricoteux.
While discussing Reginald during a 2013 interview with Indie Author Land, Truant described him as “a guy who is quite down on himself at the start of the novel, but who grows as we learn more about him. He’s a 350-pound guy working at a fitness supply company with a bunch of perfect-looking male model types.”
“When he becomes a vampire, he again feels dogged by the ‘perfect’ vampires, but soon realizes he has abilities that they lack… and has those in spades,” Truant added.
A teaser trailer for the new series, which was uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday, shows Reginald and other characters baring their vampire fangs. “Something deliciously new is coming to Syfy and it’s not your average thirst trip,” the 15-second clip teases.
The synopsis of the show reads: “Imagine a world populated by beautiful, fit and vain vampires. Reginald Andres tumbles headlong into it as an unlikely hero who will have to navigate every kind of obstacle – the girl he loves but can’t be with, a bully manager at work and the vampire chieftain who wants him dead. Fortunately, Reginald discovers he has a few unrecognized powers of his own.”
“Reginald the Vampire” premieres on Syfy on Oct. 5.
