GOT7 member Jackson Wang quickly cut off his livestream after learning that his fans kept giving him virtual gifts paid with real money.
The 29-year-old Hong Kong-born K-pop star was promoting his new album “MAGIC MAN” on TikTok Live on Sept. 6 when his fans suddenly started flooding his livestream with virtual gifts in the form of stickers.
Wang took notice of the chaos on his screen and asked his viewers what the sunglasses, hearts and hat effects were for and what was happening. Some of his fans quickly explained the situation and told him that the stickers were virtual gifts paid for with real money.
After learning that, the “Blue” singer immediately went for the stop button on TikTok Live, saying, “Oh no no no no no, oh my god,” before immediately ending the livestream.
On TikTok Live, users can purchase coins using real money in bundles, with prices ranging from 1.48 Singaporean dollars (approximately $1.05) for 110 coins to 348.98 Singaporean dollars (approximately $247) for 17,495 coins.
Wang received a total of 497 coins from the virtual stickers, which can be converted into diamonds and then exchanged for cash.
After ending his first TikTok livestream, Wang reportedly went live on the platform again but with the gift-giving feature turned off.
Besides TikTok Live, Wang also went live on Weibo, where he interacted with his fans while signing posters.
Fans praised the K-pop idol for how much he cares for them, with some calling him thoughtful and even the “bestest man.”
