Viral Video Captures the Moment Deadly Earthquake Rattles Mosque in Indonesia

A video of an imam who stayed inside a mosque to lead a prayer in the middle of the recent Indonesian earthquake has gone viral on social media.
The Islamic leader named Arafat was preaching at the Musholla As-Syuhada mosque in Denpasar, Bali when the 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck near the neighboring island of Lombok.
While many worshippers escaped the building, Arafat remained stoic and recited prayers against a trembling wall.
A few congregants stayed behind and prayed, too.
However, Arafat stayed behind as he believed that “his life was only for God to take” and that the mosque was “the best place to take shelter.”
The earthquake, which triggered at least 230 aftershocks, killed 105 people and injured more than 236 others, the Guardian reported from Jakarta on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, rescue teams continue to search for survivors, particularly in the worst-affected areas.
Arafat’s video quickly went viral, gaining millions of views and praises for his steadfastness.
Among them is Yusuf Mansur, a prominent cleric who shared the video with more than two million followers on Instagram:
“I am crying… he did not even flinch, even though it is allowed to leave your prayer during an earthquake.”
