K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation (SNSD) will have a full group comeback in celebration of their 15-year anniversary, releasing new music for the first time in five years.
The SM Entertainment legends’ last release was their sixth studio album “Holiday Night” in 2017.
A statement from SM Entertainment said, “SNSD will be releasing a new album in August for their fans who have shown love and support throughout the years.”
They are also planning on promoting the upcoming album through various television and variety show appearances.
Last September, all eight members reunited for the first time in four years on the television show “You Quiz On The Block,” to celebrate their 14th anniversary. Since then, members Taeyeon, Sooyoung and Tiffany have all teased a comeback.
SNSD leader Taeyeon has been busy with hosting duties on Season 2 of the Mnet reality singing show “Queendom,”  on top of releasing her third studio album “INVU” in February and joining SM’s new girl group, Girls on Top, with their release “Step Back” in January.
During a fan signing event on March 15, a fan asked Taeyeon about the possibility of a Girls’ Generation comeback, to which she replied with “Maybe? I think that’s possible.” When the fan pressed further, Taeyeon said, “Yes, possibly.” After the fan said “I’ll look forward to it,” she confirmed by saying, “Yes, please look forward to it a lot.”

Sooyoung took to Instagram Live March 29 to answer fan questions. When one fan asked about a comeback from the group, Sooyoung replied, “Are you ready?”

During a video for Elle Magazine in Korea in April, Tiffany also answered questions from fans, and when asked about a group comeback, she laughed and gave the cryptic answer, “That should be enough, right? Yes, we have plans!”
Since their last comeback in 2017, the individual members have been off doing various projects. Aside from Taeyeon, member Hoyeon is still releasing music as a solo artist under SM Entertainment. She released her new single “Deep” yesterday as part of her first mini-album of the same name. Sunny, Yuri, YoonA and Taeyeon still are all part of the subunit Oh!GG, formed in September 2018 with their debut “Lil’ Touch.”
Sooyoung has pursued acting, kept up a vlog and is slated for a main role in a drama called “Tell Me Your Wish” in August. She was previously in a drama called “Run On” on Netflix in 2020.
Yuri released mini-album “The First Scene” four years ago with the title track “Into You.” She also has her own cooking show.
Visual member YoonA is set to star in an upcoming Korean drama with 2PM’s Lee Jun-ho, a reunion for the two MBC co-hosts following their dance cover together of “Senorita” by Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes. She also has a vlog.
Maknae (youngest) member Seohyun has been focusing on acting, recently starring in the “Love and Leashes” film on Netflix earlier this year. She is also set to star in a drama called “Jinxed at First,” coming in June.
Korean American member Tiffany has oscillated between South Korea and the U.S. on various projects, but she notably became a solo artist and had her first U.S. tour, “Magnetic Moon,” in 2019. She also served as a mentor alongside Sunmi in the Mnet reality competition show “Girls Planet 999,” helping coach contestants for a spot in the girl group Kep1er.
Lastly, while not considered a member of Girls’ Generation anymore, Jessica is set to compete on a Chinese reality show to become a member of a new girl group. She also wrote “Bright,” a sequel to “Shine,” her YA book series inspired by her time as an idol. She also has her own YouTube channel and vlog.
