“Fresh Off the Boat” actor Hudson Yang was just accepted into the Harvard Class of 2025 as part of the university’s early admission program.
The 17-year-old actor shared the amazing news on Twitter Friday, according to The Wrap.

“Congratulations! I’m glad to inform you that the committee has admitted you to the Harvard Class of 2025 under the Early Action program! Welcome to Harvard!” the teen actor said, reading his acceptance letter to his parents. His mom recorded the family’s reaction as his father watched via video call.
Moments after reading the news, Yang stood up from his chair to hug his crying mother.
The young actor was asked by his father  what he was thinking, and Yang was beyond shocked.
“I’m so proud and so happy and so shocked and so — I’m 100. Whoa, I’m shaking,” he said.
“We did it, Jeff! We did it,” Yang’s mother told her journalist husband while sobbing.

It was a competitive year for early admission applicants, with Yang being among 747 of 10,086 who submitted their applications. The early action acceptance rate was reduced to 7.4%, according to The Harvard Crimson.
Students admitted are not required to accept and have until May 1 to make a final decision, according to The Harvard Gazette. From those notified of early admission, 17% are first-generation college students, with Asian Americans making up 23.4% of the 747 students admitted.
Yang’s acceptance to Harvard was the complete opposite of what happened to his character, Eddie Huang, in “Fresh Off the Boat.”
In Season 6, his character’s chances of getting into the Ivy League school crumbled during an interview with a school representative (played by Andy Richter) when the latter realized his mother, Jessica (played by Constance Wu), was such “a helicopter mom.”

Everything turned out perfectly for Eddie, though, as his parents eventually supported him to follow his dreams and go to culinary school.
