ABC’s “Fresh Off the Boat” will conclude the series with its current season, with a one-hour finale episode which is set to air on February 21.
The TV series, which follows the story of a Taiwanese American family in the ’90s, is loosely based on a memoir by Eddie Huang called “Fresh Off the Boat.” The series which premiered in 2015, made history by becoming the longest-running broadcast TV sitcom about an Asian American family.
Over the years, viewers of the show were able to watch the three child actors, Hudson Yang, Forrest Wheeler, and Ian Chen, grow up and develop as actors.
While the show gained popularity steadily during the first two seasons, the show’s ratings have reportedly declined in recent years. Additionally, the announcement of the renewal of the show’s sixth season was shrouded by controversy after Constance Wu famously tweeted, “So upset right now that I’m literally crying.”
The actress later released a statement explaining that she was upset, not because she dislikes the series, but because the news of the renewal meant that she would have to give up another project that she had been very passionate about.
However, since the most recent announcement regarding the conclusion of the “Fresh Off the Boat” series, Twitter users have been roasting Wu for her previous outbursts, joking that the actress was finally free.
Fans of “Fresh Off the Boat” can anticipate a spinoff of the series which will be written by Rachna Fruchbom, who has already written and produced the original FOTB series. The spinoff will feature an Indian American family whose daughter attends school with Eddie Huang.
