Elon Musk Really Hates Being Told This One Word
By Max Chang
There are probably a few things you could say to Elon Musk to tick him off, like, “Building a rocket to Mars is lame,” or “Electric cars ain’t shit,” but neither of those probably makes him more upset than hearing this word: “impossible.”
In Ashlee Vance’s new biography, “Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future,” former SpaceX engineer Kevin Brogan explains how salty the billionaire entrepreneur gets when you tell him that something is impossible.
“Elon will say, ‘Fine. You’re off the project, and I am now the CEO of the project. I will do your job and be CEO of two companies at the same time. I will deliver it.’ “
Boom. And Elon Musk ALWAYS delivers when he has to take over, according to Brogan.
“What’s crazy is that Elon actually does it. Every time he’s fired someone and taken their job, he’s delivered on whatever the project was.”
SpaceX is revolutionary for being able to create technology and build innovative rockets for a fraction of the traditional industry costs in record times. According to SpaceX employees, Musk sets “the most aggressive time schedule imaginable assuming everything goes right, and then accelerate it by assuming that everyone can work harder.”
When asked about the demands he makes on his employees, Musk told Vance:
“I don’t ever set intentionally impossible goals. But I’ve certainly always been optimistic on time frames.”
Here’s another fun fact: Brogan says that Musk even pees fast.
“It’s like a fire hose — three seconds and out. He’s authentically in a hurry.”
Damn. Want to become a billionaire entrepreneur? Learn to pee fast.
