Dice Yoshimoto makes history as the second Asian American to be named head coach in the NBA.
NBA history: Yoshimoto, 40, was selected as the Knicks’ Summer League head coach last weekend, according to The New York Post.
- “I think [diversity] is important. At the same time, I’m focused on getting better. I just want to be the best coach that I can be,” Yoshimoto said.
- He said he’s been “fortunate” to learn from a guy like Tom Thibodeau, the head coach of the Knicks team.
- Filipino American Erik Spoelstra, the head coach of the Miami Heat team, is the first and only Asian American to be a head coach during the regular season.
Former jobs: He started his basketball career when he played Division III Basketball, reported The Focus.
- In addition to playing basketball, he has earned a Sports, Events and Entertainment Management degree as well as a Master’s in Education.
- He worked with Thibodeau in the past as a head video coordinator and was with the Denver Nuggets. He later worked as the director of basketball strategy and video for the Georgia Bulldogs.
- Dice currently works in New York as Thibodeau’s assistant and video coordinator.
