‘Portlandia’ co-creator Jonathan Krisel might direct ‘Detective Pikachu’ sequel

Jonathan Krisel, co-creator of the popular sketch comedy TV series “Portlandia,” is reportedly in talks to direct the live-action sequel of “Detective Pikachu” for mass media company Legendary Entertainment.
“Detective Pikachu” is based on the Nintendo 3DS game of the same name and tells the story of a crime-solving Pikachu (Reynolds) and a budding Pokémon trainer named Tim (Smith) who investigate a conspiracy and attempt to learn more about Tim’s missing father.
With Krisel as a potential director and insiders claiming that Reynolds might be involved, the highly anticipated project is seemingly revived. Back in 2019, Legendary Entertainment teased a sequel, saying that “22 Jump Street” writer Oren Uziel would be in charge of the screenplay. However, in 2021, Justice Smith hinted that fans should not get their hopes up.
Legendary Entertainment, however, recently claimed that the project has not been scrapped. Meanwhile, a sequel for the “Detective Pikachu” video game may also still be in the works.
