100-Year-Old Man Beats Coronavirus With Plasma Donation, China Claims

The man is now considered the oldest person to ever be cured of the virus after he was released from the branch of Hubei’s Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital at the Optics Valley in Wuhan on Saturday, according to state-run news Xinhua. The previous record-holder was a 98-year-old woman who beat the virus at Leishenshan (Thunder God Mountain) Hospital in Wuhan.

The centenarian was part of a group of more than 80 patients who were discharged from the hospital after recovering from the infection.

The man, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday, was reportedly born in February 1920. He was admitted to the hospital on Feb. 24 due to the coronavirus infection, in addition to his underlying medical conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, hypertension and heart failure.

Medical professionals from the military held multiple consultations for the elderly man’s case. He was treated with a variety of methods, including antiviral drugs, convalescent plasma therapy and traditional Chinese medicine.

There are 117,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally and the number of deaths has surpassed 4,000, as of this writing, according to Worldometers.
