Population Statistics Provide Devastating News for Chinese Guys Who Want a Girlfriend
After the year 2020, 10% of young and single Chinese men will not be able to find a wife due to the gender imbalance in the country’s population. Many of these men are expected to be poor and will remain single for the rest of their lives, according to Chinese government statisticians.
Experts believe this grim but very real outlook is the consequence of the one-child policy and a culture that prefers males over females.
Yao Meixong, the deputy director of census for the Fujian Provincial Bureau of Statistics, explained to The Paper that in the next five years, there will be 118.9 boys born for every 100 girls, according to the South China Morning Post.
When that happens, there will be 12.6 million boys under the age of 9 and 9.5 million men between the ages of 20 and 29 with many millions more in the ages between. If cultural trends don’t change, the imbalance will only get worse for future generations.
Yao also believes that after 2020, 10% of the male population will never be able to find a spouse, creating a new social class of poor and forever-single males.
The imbalance is already present in some Chinese cities — a recent census report from Xiamen, located in Fujian province, found that there are already 111.69 males for every 100 women, though the ratio was worse in 2010 when there were 118.37 men for every 100 women.
