3 SF Chinatown Senior Citizens Beaten and Knocked Onto Street in Attempted Robbery

Police have stated that all three victims are men in their mid to late 60s. They are all reportedly recovering from the attack with minor injuries, but the four suspects are still at large.

The incident occurred near the entrance of Portsmouth Square, where senior citizens are said to gather day and night in the heart of Chinatown.

The entire scene was captured on video, and the graphic images show one victim falling to the ground after being punched in the face and two more men being punched and knocked onto the streets. After injuring the three senior citizens, the suspects can be seen taking off quickly in a black SUV.

 

Betty Louie, a member of the Chinatown merchants association described the incident as a “hate crime,” told ABC7 News, “We can’t get enough law enforcement behind us to at least tell these people they can’t come to Chinatown and do this.”

This is not the first time senior citizens have been targeted and beaten in Chinatown. In July, two elderly residents were physically assaulted in broad daylight by three suspects. A 19-year-old man from Oakland was eventually arrested for the assault, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

According to San Francisco Supervisor Aaron Peskin, the same car from the most recent incident, and presumably the same suspects, were involved in another robbery on November 8.

“We do know the same car was spotted in the 700 block of Jackson St. on Friday night for a purse snatching,” he told ABC.

“I have every confidence that they will apprehend someone or the three or four suspects in this case and they will be made to face the consequences,” Peskin told reporters.
