67-Year-Old Becomes the Oldest Woman in China to Give Birth

The woman, only identified by her surname Tian, gave birth at the Zaozhuang Maternity and Child Health Hospital on October 25 by cesarean section, according to Zaozhuang Express via South China Morning Post.

 

While neither of the two doctors, Wang Xietong and Liu Chengwen, who delivered the baby confirmed the birth, staff from the hospital answered the publication’s call and confirmed what happened but did not give further details.

Huang, Tian’s 68-year-old lawyer husband, told local media that their daughter, Tianci, which means “given by God,” was not planned but had been “sent by heaven.”

In a report from Jinan Times, Tian said the birth was stressful even though she was physically capable of having a baby.

“It was painful, too painful,” the 67-year-old retired nurse said. “I couldn’t even keep my eyes open.”

Doctors have closely monitored Tian during her pregnancy, but they decided on Friday to deliver the baby via cesarean section for the safety of the little girl.

She was reportedly 36 weeks into her pregnancy at the time and had high blood pressure.

The baby, who weighed 2.6 kilograms (5.7 pounds), was taken to the intensive care unit after delivery.

Both Tian and Huang have another daughter and a son, as well as several grandchildren with the eldest being 18 years old.

However, Jinan Times reported that their children objected when they discovered Tian was expecting a baby.

Tian and Huang are both in good health and receiving a pension, the woman told local media.

“We’ll strive to live to 110 years old,” the man said.
