Brooklyn-born Chinese American rapper, China Mac, has created a GoFundMe for the elderly man who was attacked while picking up cans in San Francisco.
In his Instagram post, the rapper, whose real name is Raymond Yu, urged his followers to tag anyone who can help identify the man in the viral assault video.
“Tag A Friend Who Maybe able to find this man,” China Mac wrote in the caption. “Chopii’s, I know y’all felt the same way we did when we saw that video. And it made us want to do something about it.”
“So we are coming here to ask the Chopii’s & Barbies to help find this man,” the rapper continued. “The video happened in San Francisco so he should be there. Let’s come together and do something good for him.”
Along with fellow artist Yaya Flawless, China Mac expressed how they want to find the man and help him by setting up a GoFundMe, “so he don’t need to pick up no more cans,” Yaya Flawless said.

The incident reportedly occurred on Osceola Lane in the Bayview District of San Francisco, Calif. where the elderly Chinese man was robbed and attacked while collecting cans for a living. A group of men robbed the man’s cart and shouted racist remarks at him, making fun of the Chinese language. The group also physically attacked the man, shoving and hitting him as he tried to reclaim his cart.
In a statement to NextShark, the San Francisco Police Department said that their Special Investigations Division has taken over the lead on the investigation.
Those who have more information can head over to the SFPD’s website.
