Man Arrested After Buying Boarding Pass Just to See His Wife Off at the Gate

A 27-year-old man was arrested by Singaporean police for “misusing” his boarding pass at Changi Airport on August 25.
Singaporean authorities reminded the public not to misuse their boarding passes after they arrested a man who bought a ticket to walk his wife to the gate without the intention of leaving the country, according to CNN.
“The Police would like to remind all passengers that the transit areas of Changi Airport are gazetted as Protected Places,” the Singapore Police Force wrote in a Facebook post. “Passengers who enter the transit areas with a boarding pass should only be there for the purpose of traveling to their next destinations.”
Those who are caught misusing their boarding passes are liable for an offense under the Infrastructure Protection Act. Offenders may receive a fine not exceeding 20,000 Singaporean dollars ($14,300) and/or imprisonment not exceeding two years.
Since January 2019, police have arrested 33 people for entering the airport with a boarding pass without the intention of leaving Singapore.
