A Monterey Park woman who flew to Guatemala for a yoga retreat has been missing for three weeks.
What happened: Nancy Ng, 29, traveled to the Central American country with a tour group on Oct. 14 for the weeklong retreat in Lake Atitlán. She went missing on Oct. 19 after breaking off from the group during a kayaking trip.
Ng, who was with another woman, continued to kayak for slightly over a mile before she “decided to jump into the lake to swim, at which point she disappeared,” said the Guatemalan Public Ministry, as per CBS News. Her kayak was found later.
What authorities are doing: Guatemalan authorities are conducting searches  — including with dive teams and helicopters — in the area where Ng had vanished. The U.S. State Department is monitoring the investigation, while the FBI is offering resources to assist.
What her family is saying: Ng’s family has hired private search and rescue team Black Wolf Helicopters to help locate her. They blame those who were with her on Oct. 19 for failing to file witness reports.
“There are people that witnessed what happened, within the group, that haven’t come forward,” Ng’s sister, Nicky, told ABC News. “We’re racking our brain as to why they wouldn’t want to come forward and help, if nothing nefarious happened.”
A GoFundMe page has been organized to help with search efforts and support Ng’s family. As of press time, the campaign has raised $48,681.
Anyone with information on Ng’s disappearance is urged to contact her family at +1 626-614-3218 or HelpUsFindNancy@gmail.com.
