BTS has been nominated seven times in six categories for the Billboard Music Awards 2022 set to take place in Las Vegas on Friday.
The categories in which the group has been nominated include: Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Billboard Global (Excl. U.S.) Artist, Top Selling Song (in which they were nominated twice), Top Billboard Global (Excl. U.S.) Song and Top Rock Song (which they share with Coldplay for “My Universe”).
The group thanked their fans for the support and expressed their excitement for their nominations this year on their official Twitter page:

The group’s seven Billboard nominations mark the highest number of nominations that any group or duo has received in any year.
BTS became the first K-pop group to be nominated for and win a Billboard Music Award in 2017. They have since won an award each year, last year receiving the top honor in categories Top Duo/Group, Top Social Artist, Top Selling Song and Top Song Sales Artist.
Billboard awards and nominations are based on 12-month reporting periods that collect data on artists’ annual career performance, such as album and digital song sales, radio airplay, tours and social engagement. This year’s awards are based on data between April 10, 2021 and March 26, 2022.
BTS’ song “Butter,” which was released in May 2021, topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 10 weeks, making it the longest-ranking No. 1 song in 2021. The song also earned the group the most amount of No. 1s by an Asian artist in Billboard history.
BTS recently missed the chance to win their first Grammy on April 3, but group member RM recently stated at a concert in Las Vegas that the group does not want the loss to become a big deal.
“I know there’s a lot of noise out there about Grammys and the team itself. But why give a sh*t about it?” RM was seen telling fans in a video. “Hating is their freedom, and they have their right to hate, but if it was me, I’d rather just talk with my friends in some cafe where I can forget about it rather than tweeting about it or some interview… I wouldn’t do that, because I’m a grown-up.”
The Billboard Music Award 2022 will be held on May 15 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
