Boston Mayor Michelle Wu speaks up about car collision she was involved in

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu revealed minor details surrounding the car collision she was recently involved in.
What happened: A police report obtained by WBUR revealed that Wu’s unmarked black Ford Mach E SUV was crossing a busy street at the intersection of Hyde Park Avenue and Blakemore Street in Roslindale, Boston, on Tuesday when a black Honda CR-V, carrying a mother and her 1-year-old child in the backseat collided with them.
Traffic cam footage shows that Wu’s SUV, which had its police lights on, was attempting to take a left turn to Hyde Park Avenue although Blakemore Street was still on a red light. The police report noted the car’s siren was also on.
All three people were eventually released and did not suffer serious injuries.
The mayor also reportedly suffered minor pain in her right side but refused medical assistance at the scene, with the report noting that Wu would have it checked “at a later time, if necessary.”
What the other victim is saying: The mother, Yosmery Peña, told NBC10 that she and her baby were on their way home after dropping off her two other children at school at the time, noting that she “didn’t really see them [Wu’s car].” She said that she “didn’t stop, and I didn’t have time to hit the brakes” when she saw Wu’s SUV.
“[It was] very traumatizing because I didn’t think about myself, I thought about the baby,” she also shared.
First public appearance: On Wednesday, Wu appeared in public for the first time since the accident when she told reporters that an “internal review” regarding the car collision is underway.
Wu noted that she was not headed to an emergency at the time. She did not explain why the SUV had its police lights and sirens on.
