“Awkwafina is Nora From Queens” has been greenlit for a second season.
Comedy Central broke the news on Tuesday, one week before the show’s Season 1 premiere.
The sitcom, set for 10 episodes in its first season, takes inspiration from Awkwafina’s life as a young adult in the outer boroughs of New York.

Just last week, Awkwafina won best actress at the Golden Globes for her performance as Billi in Lulu Wang’s “The Farewell.”
Subsequently, fans were outraged when she was snubbed by the Oscars for the same role.
“Nora From Queens” also stars BD Wong, known for his role in “Law & Order: SVU”, as Awkwafina’s father, Lori Tan Chinn from “Orange is The New Black” as her foul-mouthed grandmother, and Bowen Yang from “Saturday Night Live” as her “more successful” cousin.
“I’ve been watching Comedy Central since I was old enough to hold a remote, and so many of their shows have defined who I am today,” Awkwafina said in a 2018 statement. “I am so honored to be given their platform to tell the story of an Asian-American girl against the backdrop of the city I was raised.”

Awkwafina has a bounty of projects on her plate this year, including “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run,” “Raya and the Last Dragon” and “The Little Mermaid.”
“We are in awe of Awkwafina’s creative genius on every level and we could not be more excited to embark on a season two with the entire Lin family in ‘Awkwafina is Nora From Queens,’” said Sarah Babineau and Jonas Larsen, Co-Heads of Original Content, according to Deadline.

Season 1 counts Natasha Lyonne, Lucia Aniello, Jamie Babbit, Steven Tsuchida, Anu Valia, Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan among its directors, Variety noted.
The show premieres Jan. 22 at 10:30 p.m. on Comedy Central.
