68-Year-Old Man Suffers Nightmares After Attack in Oakland

The incident occurred while Hua Zhen Lin, 68, was riding an AC Transit bus to Oakland’s Chinatown on April 26, according to NBC Bay Area.

Another passenger hit Lin on the head with a cane, leaving him with a bloodied face.

Witnesses helped Lin, who was eventually brought to a hospital. However, the identity and whereabouts of his attacker are still unknown.

Lin’s daughter Cui told ABC7 News anchor Dion Lim that her father struggles with falling asleep. She said he has nightmares and yells “Don’t hurt me!” 

The incident also left Lin’s wife and 4-year-old granddaughter crying for days, Lim reported. Lin and his family have lived in the U.S. for over 20 years and never imagined going through an ordeal such as this one.

Lin was released from the hospital, but he still felt severe pain in his head as of Saturday, according to NBC Bay Area reporter Melissa Colorado. He also struggles with eating.

Last Thursday, Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce President Carl Chan planned to visit Lin but fell victim to an unprovoked attack. He managed to take a photo of his assailant, who allegedly called him a racial slur before hitting him on the head.

Chan’s attacker has reportedly been arrested and booked on felony battery charges.
